Skip hire weight restrictions

Skip hire weight restrictions

Skip hire weight restrictions – Before you dig out the Christmas decorations – it’s worth sorting out your home and getting rid of what you no longer need, and what better way to declutter than to hire a skip from A1 Skips?

Whether it be old books, clothes or toys cluttering up your home, hiring a skip is a great way to remove items that are too big and bulky to fit in your wheelie bin. We even take care of transportation – saving you tireless trips to the local tip and helping you to complete your project in time for the festive season.

But skips have a weight limit to ensure safety for our fleet drivers when they lift and remove them from properties all over the northwest. Overloading your skip with waste will only increase the cost of skip hire and the frustration of having to remove items to reduce the weight of the load.

When it comes to skip hire in Leyland, or any other area, it’s important that you order the right skip and know how much weight it can hold to avoid hefty fines for not complying with stringent skip hire regulations. But relax, our team can assist you in selecting the correct skip size – taking into account the amount of waste you expect your project to generate.

How much weight can skips hold?

As a general rule of thumb, 1-cubic yard accommodates up to 1 tonne of waste, or 340 standard house bricks safely, and here at A1, our domestic skips can hold:

  • 2-cubic yards – 2 tonnes
  • 4-cubic yards – 4 tonnes
  • 8-cubic yards – 8 tonnes
  • 12-cubic yards – 12 tonnes
  • 16-cubic yards – 16 tonnes

To get the most out of skip hire Horwich and Leyland, make sure you keep an eye on what you’re disposing of inside the skip and don’t exceed limits. Ignoring weight restrictions isn’t a good idea. You’ll need to sort through the contents and remove items that are weighing your skip down and hire a second skip for the materials that you’re left with.

Large open domestic skips, like the 12-cubic yard and 16-cubic yard skip, are suitable for lightweight materials only. They are often used to store 60% light materials and 40% heavy materials – making it easier for us to safely lift the larger container onto the back of our fleet. If you’re unsure whether something can go in your skip, we can advise you on which items are accepted in our skips and which need to be disposed of separate – maximising disposal space and keeping your costs to a minimum.
