It’s important to avoid putting anything hazardous or polluting in a skip.
As is the case with the majority of UK providers, users of our Buckshaw Village skip hire service are asked not to dispose of items such as batteries and containers of corrosive substances or poisons in our waste containers. Potential explosives such as gas cylinders should also be kept out of skips.
Furthermore, we ask that you do not place fuel - such as petrol and diesel - solvents, paints, oils or similar liquids in a skip. Only their totally clean containers should be disposed of in this way.
You cannot place electrical items like televisions and certain white goods in a skip either and, due to their high levels of sulphate, you should also avoid disposing of plasterboard and other gypsum-based products in this way.
Other banned items include tyres, wet concrete, offensive items, medical waste and asbestos.
In order to have any of the above items - except asbestos - removed from site, you will need to contact your local council and request assistance. Asbestos should only be disposed of by trained specialists.
You should always be careful not to overload your skip.
Individuals and companies who have requested skip hire in Buckshaw Village and the surrounding areas can arrange for their skip to be emptied at a time of their choosing by calling our team and requesting its removal.
We will then collect your skip within two days of your call - although the turnover is usually much faster. If you have more waste to dispose of after the first skip has been removed, you can then make another request with our company.
Each skip is available for a maximum of three weeks’ hire, unless you have made an arrangement for a longer period with the owners of A1 Skip Hire.
If we are unable to retrieve the skip on the last date of the arranged period, you may be charged an additional fee to make up for any costs or losses incurred on our part.
The waste from your skip will be removed to a transfer station and sorted. Reusable waste will be sent on to relevant bodies, while anything that absolutely cannot serve another purpose will be sent to landfill or incinerated.
